Ah, well... Again we meet

Hey guys. Guess what I did today...

Yea.. yea.. I miiight have a problem. But it was a free show! I couldn't resist. And I am slowly but surely working down everyones resolve so that they love TCC too.
I couldn't find my camera, so ipod will have to do the trick.

Guess who's coming out with a new album this summer! These guys! Exciting stuff, friends. Ex-citing!

In other news. I did some mass cleaning today. Kitchen/bedroom. Figured no one was around so I cranked up my tunes and had a field day. It started with 90's pop and ended with some favorite broadway tunes. (thank you grooveshark) And of course, what comes with broadway? Me singing at the top of my lungs and totally belting it. I go downstairs at some juncture and lo and behold, Tessa is there.. All along.
Oops. No big deal, right? I suppose. I just don't like to be heard. Unless the sound of the music balances out how loud I'm singing. It wasn't.
Ah well..

Weird funk turns into:

Random things I hate:

1. Glee & songs from
2. Greys Anatomy. (really.. that's STILL going!?)
3. The new Fun. song (we are young) STUPID RADIO! OVER AND OVER!
4. Kelly Clarkson's Stronger song. (again.. radio.. hearing it makes me want to throw things.)
5. Katy Perry music period
6. Adele songs-I probably would have liked it.. alas.. (radio, again.)
7. Anita Stansfield books
8. Twilight "saga," including the mention of glittery vampires and the awful "heroine"
9. Stupid bus people
10. BAD HANDSHAKES! I don't care WHO are you... instant judgement call (snarl)

Writing story. Returning to it.

(I've been informed by my roommates I need to write a "things I love post" to balance things... maybe next time)

What's a REAL job?

I got hired at my work.
(that doesn't make sense, amanda..)
I was a temp, now I'm a real employee.

Which comes with:

Health coverage for smoking good deal (havent been covered since 2008)
Bus pass for insanely cheap (which is GREAT since my car is no more)
Product discount. (AWESOME discount)
Regular 40 hours
Schedule of 830-5
Pay increase
PTO
Tons of other things that I seriously drop my jaw over.

I turned off my radio today because I decided I didn't want music blaring or whatever.. Got lost in thought.

DANGER
DANGER

But my brain went to- hey, I wonder how much I will have next June/July when the PTO reboots.

Next June. Like 2013 June.

Please note, that I haven't been planning ANYTHING in advance because I have this nudge in the back of my head- You're moving back to Utah. You have friends there. This isn't for you. Be ready.
This is not the nudge in the nice way. It's the annoying guilt ridden annoying anxiety that traps me. That is the reason I chose to live where I am. No lease. I can move whenever. Nothing is tying me here.

Guess what. I've made some great friends here. I have a house of roommates that I get along with so insanely well, and it has been a while since I've had that. I just got a good job with amazing benefits and perks. I-live-IN-SEATTLE.

Utah friends. I love you and miss you. I hope you know.

Future (doom music here)

After much dispute, these are my current life/career goals for the possible future. Note, these have the possibility of changing at my own personal whims.

Option 1: High School teaching.
*Need teaching certificate/masters degree.
*Don't exactly like being in front of a group of people
*I would need to do this in more than a few years time because sometimes people think I'm either still a High School student OR just out of. I'd like to avoid that.

While you might be wondering why oh WHY I might WANT to do this, I have these moments where I will read something or come across something that I find fantastic and my brain automatically goes into the process of; how would I teach this. How could I get everyone involved to a point of understanding and (dare i dream) to appreciate it?
And! I think English teachers have a real bad rap sheet. I've had some pretty outstanding English teachers in my time which disputes the stereotypical sucky ones. (i've had some dreadful ones too, but that's neither here nor there)

Option 2: Library School (still)
I'm not sure if I mentioned this here.. there.. anywhere.. but I got denied from UW. At this juncture I am trying to figure out if this is just a higher power saying, 'hey, amanda.. choose something else..' or if I should just apply some more and to other schools. My problem is that one way or another I would be forking out $40,000+ for this, and I want to know I'm doing it for the right reasons... and not because this is what happens next.

Option 3: Editing
There is a certificate program that I ran across. 9 months, 3 courses. It's not a degree, it's a certificate. Mostly I'd like it to pad my resumé for the possibility of editing. The writers conference that I volunteered at heightened this interest, especially since the girl that stayed at my house is my age and the manuscripts she accepts are what she likes to read. Umm, that's kind of awesome. And for some reason, my little kitty brain thinks I could do it. Especially with the extra training. Although, I can think off the top of my head of 2 people that I was going to look over their stories. (you know who you are) And I have started, but not done much with it. Sorry for that.

Option 4: Travel
Work, save money, blow it on awesome trips... to return and save up again. (rinse and repeat)
Main places: Italy, Scotland (i did not get enough time there), New Zealand.... And I really want to go up the east coast in the fall. I have friends/family from Washington DC and on up to Maine. It would be absolutely lovely. (don't you just love new york in the fall? it makes me want to buy school supplies..)

I need to go to bed earlier. 0430 really kicks my trash every-morning...

Book Review Sunday!

Have you heard of this book? Have you read it? Because I'm telling you now, you should..
"It is 1939, Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will become busier still."

If you can imagine, it's a story told by the point of view of Death. Who was quiet a hoot, I have to say, considering his occupation. But it follows the story of a German girl named Liesel as one the first acts we see from her is stealing a book from the grave of her little brother; The Grave Digger's Handbook. There begins this appreciation and love of books as her foster father stays up with her at night sounding out each word as she learns to read and struggles to cope with the death of her brother that still haunts her. (I have to love a girl that loves books so much that she saves/steals them from Nazi book burnings)
And of course, being Nazi Germany, it's a dangerous time for everyone, especially when Liesels family hides a Jew in their basement.

What I appreciated greatly about this book is the telling of a girls story (starts when she's about 11) when she has no idea what's really going on. Of course it's hard; rations, soldiers, bombings, etc.. But she's eleven. She doesn't fully understand all the repercussions of what is happening around her country. I liked that it was more of just a regular German citizen trying to get by without ticking off the wrong people. Trying to be good, and trying to survive through the war. There were fantastic highs and devastating lows. I also appreciated Deaths distain for Hitler. I have often viewed Death as the villain, the black hooded demon who comes to steal people away in the night. And while this may be his occupation, he hated what the Nazi's were doing, it was evident that he felt it was unnecessary.. and his appreciation for those that lived and the lives they led was something that forever sticks in my mind.

I listened to this book while at work, and let me tell you there was such a range of emotions. I laughed out loud, guffawed at all appropriate parts, was angry and felt the utter devastation at the deaths of those who had become near and dear to my heart.

I share with you, at this juncture, the first page. In a creative writing class, we discussed the whole "hooks" at the beginning of books that catch us. And this did. Hook-line-sinker.

DEATH AND CHOCOLATE

First the colors.
       Then the humans
That's usually how I see things.
       Or at least try.

***HERE IS A SMALL FACT***
You are going to die.

I am in all truthfulness attempting to be cheerful about this whole topic, though most people find themselves hindered in believing me, no matter my protestations. Please, trust me. I most definitely can  be cheerful. I can be amiable. Agreeable. Affable. And that's only the A's. Just don't ask me to be nice. Nice has nothing to do with me.

***REACTION TO THE***
AFOREMENTIONED FACT
Does that worry you?
I urge you-don't be afraid.
I'm nothing if not fair.
--------------------------------------------

now go read the rest...

I promise you won't be disappointed. Actually, in all honesty, all I can think about right now is getting my own copy so I can read it again and mark all my favorite parts.

yesterday when i was mad...

i was really ticked yesterday. thinking about it now it seems so so trivial. the bus was late- by 30 minutes and made me miss my friends senior recital. it was raining. it was cold. and i'm trying to recover from whatever illness garbage i have right now. i wasn't mad at seattle for raining. or myself for dreadful planning.. a bit at the bus for being SO DRASTICALLY late... i was mad at the STUPID JERK who TOTALED MY CAR! it was at the root of my frustrations.

i'm honestly trying to be optimistic about the car issues. i'm grateful (said through gritted teeth) for the bus system and the cheap bus pass i have. in all actuality i have a way to get from point A to point B. Whether it be by bus or by my kind roommates who have vehicles. i'm glad to know i don't have a car payment any longer. that feels like SUCH a huge weight off, so the idea of getting another car and adding to it doesn't excite me at all. and i have a lot of 'what ifs'; maybe something really dreadful would have happened in my car. maybe this is all a blessing in disguise. maybe this is a lesson in patience and being willing to ask for help. *sigh* it could be all of these things.

damn my pride.

things i've discovered

1. i hate the bus. it takes forever and i feel stranded 95% of the time.

2. a combo of avocados and oranges may or may not make my throat feel like it will close up or at the very least, violently burn and make my voice sound like a man.

3. i am not your star-shaped tupperware. find it someplace else.

4. podcasts!

**edit** made some cookies.. threw in some lime for good measure. sounded good. seemed totally delish.. yea. may me allergic to that too... this is not a good feeling.. citrus... *sigh* goodbye little bits of sunshine.
